Anno 2070: developers want to save the game from being killed by Ubisoft

While Ubisoft announced that it would cut Anno 2070’s online services, the developers decided otherwise.

A few days ago, Ubisoft shared a new list of games whose servers were going to be shut down, killing all online functionality, DLC purchases, etc. Between several games Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cellwas located Anno 2070Anno 2070 is a management game that still enjoys a certain community and that the developers do not want to do without. So they decided to turn the tables.

Don’t touch Anno 2070 you fools!

Ubisoft MainzUbisoft Mainz, the studio that owns Ubi, has decided to to take over the online services of Anno 2070 and to migrate to a new infrastructure. The developers have indeed published a post in which they explain that they will work for keep the data and recover the functionality online of the software. They specify nevertheless that it is not without risks and that nothing can guarantee that they completely succeed in the migration.

After an initial analysis, we have decided to devote some of our development resources to upgrading the aging Anno 2070 online services infrastructure to a new system, so that these features can continue to be used beyond the date mentioned. However, we cannot yet guarantee that we will be able to successfully upgrade/replace the old services exactly as we would like.

In any case, even if the devs don’t succeed, we can only applaud the studio’s initiative.
For the rest of the list, however, the sentence is irrevocable.
