Hard Rock can build its guitar-shaped tower at the Mirage
Just a few days ago, a Clark County commission in the state of Nevada gave the final green light needed for the Hard Rock International group’s project that will bring a major change to the face of the Las Vegas Strip.
Indeed, this operator will be able to replace the famous artificial volcano of the hotel-casino The Mirage by a 36-story tower in the shape of an electric guitar.
An opening planned during the year 2025
Currently, one of the most iconic hotel-casinos operated by the Hard Rock International group is located in the state of Florida. It is the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, which is famous for, among other things, hosting a hotel tower in the shape of an electric guitar.
Well, such a building is also planned to see the light of day in place of the Mirage’s man-made volcano on the Strip.
Now that this project has just received the last necessary approval from Clark County, it will finally be able to go ahead. This is expected to happen in the year 2025, without further details.
Within it, this future hotel tower will house 600 rooms and suites, restaurants and a game room among other things. It will also include 6 light beams that will rise to 6,000 m high in the sky to represent the strings of an electric guitar neck.
Name change expected sometime in 2024
For the record, it should be remembered that the Hard Rock International group, which belongs to the Seminole American Indian tribe of Florida, acquired the rights to operate The Mirage hotel-casino from MGM Resorts International for $1.08 billion at the end of the year 2022.
Nevertheless, the real estate investment trust Vici Properties still owns the land. It leases it to Hard Rock International for an initial $90 million per year.
Under the terms of the sale agreement, MGM Resorts International retained the name and brand of The Mirage. The buyer, Hard Rock International, still has the right to use them for a period of three years.
Recently, it has indicated that it intends to use the name until 2024. This should give him enough time to rename this hotel-casino as Hard Rock, before opening his new tower in the shape of an electric guitar the following year.
In addition, the operator plans to renovate the entire gambling establishment, including the 3,044 rooms and suites already in existence. It will also build a new auditorium with seating for 3,000 people, as well as additional restaurants, stores and swimming pools.
At this point, the timeline for all of these different projects has not yet been released. It is expected that this will be the case during the current year.
The Mirage Hotel and Casino opened on November 22, 1989. Its impact is remarkable. Indeed, it launched the modern Las Vegas that gave back to the city its tourist frequentation lost during the 1970s.
