Sony’s next headset, developed for the PS5, would go into production “soon” to ensure an arrival at the end of the year. Other details such as the number of copies available have been revealed.

The PlayStation VR 2 is slowly but surely preparing for its entry into the market, and it does not intend to make some mistakes again. Indeed, the ps5 headset will entrust the management of movements to new, much more advanced controllers that will reuse the immersive technologies of the DualSense.

If Sony had ruled out from the outset an “immediate” availability during the announcement last year, an insistent rumor expects a release in 2022. This information is now corroborated by an insider of the Goertek production chain, the Chinese factory which already produces the PSVR 1 and other important headsets as noted by our colleagues from VRPlayer.

He states that his business posted solid health with the delivery of millions of units of a “major game console from a Japanese customer”, and the latter intends to extend the partnership with Goertek in order to “provide a new generation of VR headset” for a launch in 2022.

1 to 2 million PSVR 2 this year

According to him, 1 to 2 million PlayStation VR 2 could be manufactured in 2022, with some higher production capacities in 2023. For the rest, it is still unclear even if rumors have been in the same direction on two occasions.

Thus, the headset would have, among other things, two OLED screens of 4000 × 2040 pixels, and would adopt a different philosophy from its predecessor. If the most recent hallway rumors hold true, then the (official) news shouldn’t be long … a first glimpse at CES 2022 followed by a State of Play?
