Known for their work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, the Weta company is in the process of making a new video game based on a world famous IP.
And when Weta talks about a “major and“ world famous ”PI, we obviously can’t help but think of the Lord of the Rings. But the recruitment offer for a producer does not reveal more.
We learn, however, that this franchise is “very dear to our hearts” for the special effects studio of Peter Jackson, recently acquired by Unity. Its subsidiary dedicated to video games is planning a new generation PC and console project..
The most cinephiles will also remember that Weta and Peter Jackson have already worked on many other big IPs over the years, like King Kong, Avatar, The Hobbit or Game of Thrones. But also… Avengers, Wonder Woman, Justice League or Deadpool. Vast choice.
Moreover on Facebook, the announcement speaks more generally of a license “incredibly rich and inspiring which will delight fans and players around the world.”
As a reminder, Weta has worked on very few games through its subsidiary Weta Gameshop since its creation in 2012, mainly in VR.
