Denise Coates among the UK’s richest
Founded in 1821, the Sunday Times is a Sunday newspaper distributed in the UK and Ireland. Every spring since 1989, it has published its famous Rich List.
It reveals the 1,000 richest people or families living in the UK, ranked according to their net worth.
The most recent list went online on Friday May 19. It places Denise Coates, the iconic founder, majority shareholder and co-CEO of online gaming company Bet365, in 16th place.
Denise Coates and family fortune estimated at £8.975 billion
For some years now, Denise Coates has topped the Sunday Times taxpayers’ list. Even though she only came second in 2023, she still paid income tax of £460.2 million, equivalent to around 529.27 million euros.
So it’s only logical that she should feature prominently in the Sunday Times Rich List. However, she is only in 16th place. Her family’s net worth is estimated at £8.975 billion (around 10.32 billion euros).
Although this fortune has increased by £158 million ($181.71 million) since last year, Denise Coates and her family still remain in the same position as in 2022.

The top three in the Sunday Times Rich List
Gopi Hinduja tops this year’s Sunday Times Rich List with £35 billion (€40.25 billion). He is a businessman of Indian origin who heads the Hinduja group of companies, including Gulf Oil International and IndusInd Bank.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe comes second with £29.69 billion (34.15 billion euros). Thanks to the impressive success of his chemical company INEOS, his fortune increased by no less than £23.61 billion (27.15 billion euros) in one year.
Finally, Sir Leonard Blavatnik ranks third with £28.63 billion (32.93 billion euros), thanks to his investment company Access Industries, active in the music and media sectors.
Denise Coates to head Bet365
Born on September 26 1967, Denise Coates, now 55, is the eldest daughter of Peter Coates, chairman of Stoke City Football Club.
In 2001, she borrowed no less than £15 million to found her famous Bet365 online gaming company. Headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent, England, it also has offices in Manchester, Gibraltar, Malta, Bulgaria and Australia.
Employing over 4,000 people in 2020, it is currently one of the UK’s leading operators. It is active in the sports betting and online casino sectors.
