Games of the Year from the Games Awards and other Steam Awards are great, but the top rated game by the press and gamers in 2021 has nothing to do with it, it’s Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

Far from the results of the Games Awards which elected It Takes Two as game of the year and even more from the Steam Awards which did the same with Resident Evil Village, Metacritic tells us that the game best received by the press and gamers is none other than Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

It must be said that Square Enix’s ultimate MMO expansion concludes a story arc that spanned years, and it does it well.

Acclaimed by critics and gamers alike, Endwalker has had its effect and FF14’s servers are always full. A great way to come full circle, especially when you know what went through Final fantasy 14. Between chaotic development and total reboot, the software has come a long way.

So it is with a score of 93 on Metacritic as Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker holds the top of the podium, tied with Hades. Behind we find Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 (90), FF7 Remake Intergrade (89) or It Takes Two (88).

Metacritic has posted its Top 40 best rated games of the year 2021, available at this address.
