Former screenwriter and head of writing at Eidos Montreal, Mary DeMarle has just joined EA and BioWare to take over the narrative direction.
This is good news for Bioware and the company’s fans: writer Mary DeMarle has joined the ranks of the American studio as narrative director. Her name may not ring a bell, but her work is well known in the video game world.
Former scriptwriter on the late Myst franchisewith episodes 3 and 4, she mostly directed the writing of Deus Ex: Human Revolution before becoming the narrative director on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Recently, she was the lead writer on the very good Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, with which she won a Game Awards 2021 for her work.
At BioWare, she will be tasked with leading the writing on upcoming story-driven games like Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 5. After more than 14 years at Eidos Montreal, and 5 years at UbisoftDeMarle could bring a very interesting expertise to franchises that are looking for a new lease on life.
